Angler on the boat holding up a trophy roosterfish off the coast of Nicaragua

On The Hunt · Aposentillo, NicaraguaFishing Charters in Nicaragua

All-inclusive fishing from our beachfront lodge on Nicaragua's northern Pacific coast, in water with no competing charter boats.

What our charters are

Lodge-based sport fishing, all included

Our fishing charters in Nicaragua aren't a half-day boat rental. Each trip is a 5- or 7-day all-inclusive stay at our lodge in Aposentillo, with the fishing at the center of every day.

While neighboring Costa Rica and Panama have become crowded tourist destinations, the waters off Nicaragua's northern coast have stayed virtually untouched: no crowds, no competing charter boats, just you and the fish. If you want the experience Costa Rica offered 20 years ago, you'll find it here.

Our boat is a 30 ft 2023 Fibromaster panga-style center console with twin 2025 Suzuki 100HP four-stroke outboards, fishing up to 6 anglers. It's wet-slipped 5 minutes away at Marina Puesta del Sol, so you spend your time fishing, not commuting.

Species & season

What you'll chase, and when

We fish inshore, nearshore, offshore, reef and FADs (fish aggregating devices). Nearshore holds some of the biggest roosterfish in the world, with snapper on the reefs and snook in the estuary. Offshore, it's Pacific sailfish, black and blue marlin, tuna and abundant mahi.

Season: May through October only. It's an excellent time for offshore fishing, and May and June are exceptional for mahi mahi. Roosterfish are around all season, peaking August–September. Roosterfish are strictly catch & release.

A charter day

What a day on the water looks like

We like to leave the marina early, while conditions are best. Mornings in the season are typically clear and calm, and we're usually back before any afternoon showers roll in. The rain rarely affects the fishing; it brings cooler air and water temperatures, which makes for better fishing, and it keeps the crowds away.

Your guides tailor each day to the group, whether you're learning to fish offshore or you've been doing it for years: trolling, jigging, spinning or bottom fishing, depending on what's biting. On the run out you may see humpback whales, dolphins and sea turtles.

Afterward, we finish the day back at the lodge with great food, cold drinks and fish stories. Want to surf too? The Boom breaks steps from your casita and is best at first light.
