FAQs

Is Nicaragua safe?

Yes! The coastal areas we operate in are quiet fishing and surf communities that welcome visitors. Like any international destination, we recommend normal travel awareness, but guests consistently find Nicaragua to be warm, friendly, and welcoming.

See our Complete Guide for Travelers on Nicaragua Safety for everything you need to know regarding traveling to Nicaragua.

Where are you located?

We're in Aposentillo, Nicaragua — a small town on the remote northern Pacific coast.

Where do I fly into?

You will fly into Managua (MGA), and it's about a 3.5-hour drive to the lodge.

How do I get from the airport to the lodge?

We offer several transportation options. Once you let us know the date and time of your arrival, we will have a ride arranged for you to Aposentillo.

When is the best time to come?

Nicaragua offers incredible surfing and fishing year-round, so there’s really no bad time to visit. That said, Our season runs May - October.

March through October is considered the prime surf season with consistent south swells and offshore winds creating clean, powerful waves almost every day. It’s also an excellent time for offshore fishing, but May and June are exceptional for mahi mahi. Rooster fish are around all season and peak time is August - September.

No matter when you visit, you can expect warm water, uncrowded waves, and the chance to chase fish in one of the most productive stretches of coastline in Central America. Book early for best availability.

Do I need local currency?

No, USD is accepted everywhere.

Is there an ATM nearby?

Currently, we do not have an ATM at the Lodge, but there is an ATM in town, if needed. We suggest using the ATM at the airport or bringing a cash with you. It’s generally easier to bring cash.

Do I need fishing/surfing experience?

Nope. Our trips are designed for a range of experience levels. Whether you’re chasing your first wave, learning how to fish offshore, or you’ve been doing both for years, we tailor the experience to the group. Our guides are there to help you improve, explore new spots, and make the most of every day on the water.

Can I do both fishing AND surfing on the same trip?

Absolutely — that's our specialty! Surf The Boom at dawn, fish in the afternoon. Perfect rhythm.

What's The Boom?

The Boom is a world-class A-frame surf break right at your doorstep. It breaks best at first light — steps from your casita.

What fish can I catch?

Nicaragua waters are known for giant roosterfish, mahi mahi, marlin, sailfish, wahoo, and snapper.

What should I pack?

Bring lightweight clothes, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and any personal gear you prefer to use. If you have a favorite surfboard or fishing setup you’re welcome to bring it, but we also have gear available for guests.

Is there WiFi at the lodge?

Yes! WiFi is available at the lodge so you can stay connected.

How many guests can the lodge accommodate?

2-8 guests max. Exclusive use — the lodge is yours.

What does a typical day look like?

Most days start with an early surf or fishing session when conditions are best. After breakfast, guests often relax, explore the area, or head back out for another session in the afternoon. Evenings are for great food, cold drinks, and swapping stories from the day.

What else is there to do in town?

Even though Aposentillo is best known for its surf and fishing, there’s plenty to enjoy when you’re not on the water. The area has a relaxed, authentic coastal vibe with small beach restaurants, local bars, and quiet stretches of sand perfect for exploring.

Guests often spend time watching sunsets on the beach, visiting nearby surf breaks, or grabbing fresh seafood and a cold drink at local spots around town. There are also opportunities for beach walks, horseback riding along the coast, and exploring nearby fishing villages to get a glimpse of everyday life on Nicaragua’s northern Pacific coast.

If you’re looking for adventure, day trips to nearby nature areas and volcanoes can also be arranged. Many guests find that simply slowing down, enjoying the ocean views, and soaking up the laid-back atmosphere becomes one of the best parts of the trip.
